The concept of Purge emerged after Brian discovered in that his ex-boyfriend and best friend, Grant, had deleted him from Friendster (a pre-Facebook networking site). After the break-up, they eventually re-friended' each other. However, it was upon discovering the past de-friending, but being unable reconnect since Grants death that inspired Brian to create Purge in 2011
